LETTERS, Page 8Do unto Otters
I was enraged by your report that commercial fishermen are not
upset about the deaths of sea otters in the wake of the Alaskan
Exxon Valdez oil spill because an otter can consume as much as 25
lbs. of seafood a day (NATION, Aug. 7). These fishermen seem to
think every resource on earth is for humans only. The otters have
more right to the seafood; it is their only source of sustenance.
We must realize that we are encroaching on the sea otters'
territory and their nourishment.
